MEMORY BEARS
On January 30, 2008, my mother-in-law, Celia Murphy, passed away. She was on her first world-travel trip from England to see all of her 6 children scattered around all corners of the earth from California, New Zealand and Australia.
More importantly for us, though, she and my father-in-law were here with us for one month in October to witness the birth of our first baby girl, Jadzia. Since she lived in England and didn't travel much it was especially important for us to have her here to meet our new daughter and share some quality time here in our home in San Diego. She left some winter clothes here with us with the thought of coming back through to collect them after her journey through Hawaii, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia.
Sadly, she passed on while in New Zealand and was laid to rest there in a beautiful hillside overlooking a magnificent body of water.
Her clothes remained with us for a few months until I got the idea to make a memory bear out of them for my husband and daughter. I thought about how lovely it would be to make one for each of her children and her loving husband. We had the very apropos idea of using her clothing, which had been intended for such a wonderful world trip, and was the last remaining reminder of how amazing it was to have shared our home and time with her during the month our first baby was born. With the success of this endeavor bringing us such comfort and happiness, I couldn't help but offer this service to others in hopes of bringing them the same comfort and joy.
Our "Celia Bear" sits over our daughter's crib, watching over her and bringing us a sense of comfort and closure. Our dearest Celia is never truly gone from us, and brings us comfort everyday. |

To help me cope I made a special memory bear out of the outfit that would have been his "coming home" outfit. I have embroidered my son's initials "CRM" on the bum.
